The Trans Pennine Challenge Stroke by Stroke!

Day 1 - Liverpool to Wigan

Assisted passage by Canal and River trust personnel through the Liverpool link passing the Liver Buildings into Stanley Dock and up the four locks onto the Leeds Liverpool canal proper.

A two hour push then to our first schedule stop at the Ship at Haskayne check bumps and bruises, food and liquid refueling.  Another push then to our first lock at Appley Bridge, just outside Wigan. A short stop at the boat house public in.

Then final push of the day to the famous Wigan Pier. Some 35miles, 11 locks and 13 swing bridges. 

Recommended time to travel 12 hours, our plan 8 hours!!!!!

Day 2 - Wigan to Chorley

Not so much paddling initially but plenty of effort required over the first 6 miles of the daunting Wigan flight of 22 locks Expected to take  4 hours. Through Haigh Hall for a brief stop at The Red lion at Haigh.

A further 8 miles of paddling to Chorley, traversing a further 7 locks, through Wheelton and Withnell to stop overnight at the Top lock.

In summary 14 miles, 29 locks.. and 3 swing bridges.

Day 3 - Chorley to Foulridge Summit

A stage that will go down in infamy . . .

. . . I won't kid you this is gonna be tough. Not so many locks, a mere 19 in all but a challenging 30mile run I'm afraid. The nearer we get to Foulridge tunnel this day the better. 

In summary 30 miles! 19 locks and 3 swing bridges!
